10 Things to Do With Leftover Halloween Candy!

1. Let them eat it
This is the most obvious answer, and there are a few ways to manage the consumption of all of that sugar. Our dentist suggests just letting them eat their fill until it’s gone – making sure that they drink a lot of water after eating it, and brushing and flossing well. The reason behind this is, it is less damaging to their teeth than having them eat a little sugar, each day, for a long period of time. The other answer is to mete it out, a bit at a time, until it is gone.
2. Donate it to a shelter or children’s hospital
Make a couple of phone calls and find out the best way to do this. I know that donations are always welcome.
3. Mail it to a soldier
Our men and women in the armed forces work hard, and a little sugar love is a sweet way to show we care! Think of the wonderful lessons our children will learn from sharing, as well.
4. Trade for a book or toy or money
Whether you make the trade, or a “Sugar fairy” makes a visit, trading candy for something of more value is a great thing. I prefer the trading candy for books, idea – something that can be enjoyed by everyone in the family!

5. Freeze and use for baking
This works especially well with those mini chocolate bars – they work great chopped up in brownies, cookies, or sprinkled on top of cakes. You’ll love having this resource ready in your freezer!
6. Freeze and use for stocking stuffers
Why pay a lot of money for those little chocolate bars to stuff into stockings, when people are giving them out for free on Halloween? Freeze ’em. Stuff ’em. Done.
7. Give to dentist
Call your dentist’s office and see if they accept candy trades. Many do. Fun!
8. Freeze and use for birthday treat bags
Referring to the logic behind #6, why not use all of this free candy for something you would normally shell out money for?
9. Trade for a family outing
If you need some extra time together as a family (and who doesn’t), offering a trade for a night at the movies, a trip to the zoo, or a day at the museum will have your kids begging to get rid of that candy!
10. Toss it
This is definitely an option, but try any of the previous nine ideas, first. You’ll thank me later, and so will your dentist 😉
